your comfort and positive health outcomes are our priority
FAQ’s
-
We aim at providing treatments that are within your comfort levels.
Acupuncture by an Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner isn’t typically painful. You may feel a pressing of our finger to find point locations, a brief warmth or low grade ache or referral sensation. Chinese Medicine acupuncture doesn’t focus on illiciting a pain and muscle twitch response like other needling techniques.
At any time in your treatment you are welcome to express any discomfort, pain, change of mind or ask any questions about the sensations you may be feeling.
It’s your safe space and right as a client to have the say in what treatments you receive from what is offered as an appropriate choice of modality for you.
Tuina is a firm acupuressure technique that is brief but can be more painful than acupuncture at times where there is impared circulation and qi stagnation.
Gua Sha and Cupping can feel firm and also relaxing at the same time. These modalities are expalined further in the ‘services’ section.

Acupuncture requires exposure of the skin area to be treated. Wearing loose fitting and comfortable clothing is recommended so that they can be rolled up for accessing arm and leg points.
Depending on the points and areas selected, there may be times where we need access to the back and/or abdomen. We offer towels for adequate draping to maintain your privacy over your clothing. We will always communicate what areas of the body need to be accessed for treatment.
We will not request underwear to be removed.
If you prefer to remain fully clothed or have any concerns about exposing certain parts of the body, we can accommodate this by utilising ‘distal point’ acupuncture which is typically the hands, feet, head and ear in some instances.

Everyone is different, along with each treatment goal.
Sometimes people will experience an increase in appetite and energy or desire to rest and digest. If there has been chronic overwork and stress, there may be some increased desire to sleep more over the next day or two as your nervous system regulates.
Some musculoskeletal conditions may experience quick relief, others may experience an influx of localised tissue response that will gradually reduce over the day.
Our practitioners can discuss your specific conditions and treatment outcomes at your appointment.
-
Please eat breakfast on the day of your appointment. Your body needs energy to process treatments. To avoid dizziness and fatigue, please ensure you have eaten well and stayed hydrated throughout the day.
No alcohol or recreational drugs prior to treatment.
Avoid caffeine one hour before and after your appointment so that your nervous system can utilise the treatment provided for regulation. We will also get a clearer picture of your health with our diganosis.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 2 hours post treatment.
For cupping and gua sha, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, wind, and soaking in water for the remainder of the day.

Chinese Medicine including Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and other modalities are considered safe when when applied by a degree qualified and registered Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturist practitioner.
We use needles and points very differently to that of dry needling and other needling techniques.
When seeking Chinese Herbal Medicine, this is another registration category separate to an Acupuncturist. Look for Registered Chinsese Herbal Medicine in your practitioners qualifications. This ensures indepth and extra training to that of a Chinese Medicine Acupuncture degree.
All needles used are single use and sterile in our clinic in accordance with AHPRA guidelines.
All medications and supplements are taken into consideration when formulating your Chinese Herbal Medicine prescription.

Acupuncture by a registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist requires a Health Science degree with over 800 hours of supervised clinic, exit exams plus ongoing professional education to maintain registration and insurance with AHPRA and The Chinese Medicine Board of Australia.
This title of Acupuncturist is exclusive and a protected title to Chinese Medicine practitioners only. However, you may come across other practitioners using the terms ‘acupuncture’ as that is not a protected title, including dry needling, acuneedling, integrative acupuncture. These are very different in diagnosis, theory and application/technique of needles.
Dry Needling, Acuneedling and Integrative Acupuncture do not require the in depth training in theory and practical application of Chinse Medicine Acupuncture. The training for other needling techniques can be done online in a weekend without clinical supervision or exit exams for qualifications. The needle techniques, diagnosis, protocols and scope of practice are not the same as an Acupuncturist.
Chinese Medicine Acupuncture works on a whole body approach, utilising a thorough diagnosis and point prescription protocl specific to the individual, which can change between appointments as symptoms resolve. Chinese Medicine utilises meridians, fascia, ashi(pain points) during the diagnosis and treatment for internal medicine and musculoskeletal conditions.
Acupuncture from a Chinese Medicine professional aims at being a low pain treatment, working on the root cause as well as the branch, not just symptomatic relief.
-
Treatment plans are discussed with your initial appointment. Some chronic conditions may take some time to improve, whilst others may respond more readily. Typically a combination of Acupuncture and Herbal formula combined can improve the response rate of treatment outcomes.
Everybody and every condition is different. However generally, one appointment won’t realistically ‘fix’ it all. Especially if we’re getting the root cause of symptoms.
We are happy to discuss any inquiries prior to booking if required.

You most certainly can!
With busy lifestyles and burdens comes consistent stress and challenges to the nervous system, immune system, hormones and digestion.
A regular ‘maintenance’ session is a great way to support your body as a preventative health care approach.
How often is maintenance required?
This can vary between each person and condition. If it’s for women’s health cycle maintenance, one appointment per month may be all that is required if other intial symptoms have resolved.
If you use your body for manual labour, sport or intense exercise regimes, a session every 3-4 weeks may be enough to get you through your weeks, once your initial injuries or overuse conditions have resolved.
-
The beauty of Chinese Medicine is that we support the body wholistically. We can address pain as well as many other symptoms, as they are often interrelated. It’s common to find underlying health challenges that can benefit from Chinese Medicine once the initial complaint or chief pain presentation has resolved. We can offer support in many apsects of your health care.

FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS
These appointments continue to review and provide diagnosis and treatment of your main health concern. Time is given for evaluation of your progress and treatment plan to ensure you keep progressing and maintaining your positive health outcomes. For some conditions, shorter and more frequent treatments can get better results than one long treatment spaced out monthly or periodically. We want you to get quicker but also lasting results so that you can relax into a maintenance phase of treatment frequency, allowing you more time to enjoy your daily activities with more ease and less recurrence of symptoms and complaints.
There are various follow up appointment types. The most appropriate for you will be recommended by your practitioner. Please feel welcome to discuss these options when booking or prior to booking.
You can book appointments in advance online or when you are in clinic. We recommend booking your next two appointments in advance when you are in clinic for ease of scheduling and getting the time that suits you best. If you prefer to schedule on an as-needed basis, you’re welcome to book whenever it suits you, as long as there are no contraindications for the treatment.
Please check with each practitioner how far in advance their online appointment booking is open for and their missed appointment/late cancellation fees.
Booking appointments in advance can alleviate the stress of trying to book an appointment at the last minute, as there may not be a wide selection of times available on the day or current week of wanting an appointment. Appointments can easily be changed if no longer needed as frequently or with any changes to your schedule.
